Registration closes Monday, November 1, 2021 at 8:00 am. Practice will begin the week of November 7, 2021. 

THE PENN TRAFFORD AREA RECREATION COMMISSION IS OFFERING REC BASKETBALL FOR CHILDREN IN GRADES 3-4 AND 5-6 (must be in grade level 3 by August, 2021). This league is for those who live in the Penn Trafford School District Area. Enrollment in the PTSD is NOT required.

VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE NEEDED. ALL COACHES MUST HAVE ACT 153 CLEARANCES. 

VOLUNTEER  COACHES MUST COMPLETE COACHES CLINIC/TRAINING SESSION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2021-2022 SEASON. THE CLINIC WILL BE HELD DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF NOVEMBER. 

THE LEAGUE WILL OPERATE UNDER THE FOLLOWING FORMAT: 

GRADES 3-4: NOVEMBER/JANUARY SESSION. 8 PRACTICES TOTAL, 2 BEFORE THE 1ST GAME. SIX (6) GAMES WILL BE PLAYED. PRACTICES WILL BE ON EITHER MONDAY OR WEDNESDAY (SOME SUNDAYS) AT EITHER PENN MIDDLE OR TRAFFORD MIDDLE/ELEMENTARY. GAMES WILL BE PLAYED ON SATURDAYS AT PENN MIDDLE SCHOOL. 

GRADES 5-6, Registration will open in December: JANUARY/MARCH SESSION. 8 PRACTICES TOTAL, 2 BEFORE THE 1ST GAME. SIX (6) GAMES WILL BE PLAYED. PRACTICES WILL BE ON EITHER MONDAY OR WEDNESDAY(SOME SUNDAYS) AT EITHER PENN MIDDLE OR TRAFFORD MIDDLE/ELEMENTARY. GAMES WILL BE PLAYED ON SATURDAYS AT PENN MIDDLE SCHOOL. 

• Grades 3-4 play four (4) 9-minute running clock quarters. The clock will stop for free throws in the last two minutes of each half or a time out. All children will have equal play time. Score and records kept. 
• Grades 5-6 play four (4) 6-minute quarters. The clock will stop for whistles and free throws. Score and records kept. 

PIAA officials are used to officiate games. Parents, players, Coaches, Officials and Spectators should hold mutual respect for each other. PTARC has technical foul and game suspension policies in place to address on court/game related issues. 

Players will need to bring their own basketball.  A 28.5" indoor basketball is required for boys and girls in Grades 3-4, as well as girls in Grades 5-6.  For boys in Grades 5-6, a 29.5" indoor basketball is required.

Due to restricted gym access, registration will be limited to 120 children (November/January) in 3-4th grade, 120 children (January/March) in 5-6th grade
